SVS VQIThe UAB Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) received the highest possible rating of three stars for its yearly participation in the Society for Vascular Surgery’s Vascular Quality Initiative (SVS VQI).

Each participating center is evaluated and scored based on the following criteria:

  • Long-term follow-up
  • Attendance at regional quality group meetings
  • Quality improvement activities
  • Number of VQI registry subscriptions

In order to receive a three-star rating, evaluated facilities must implement a continuous improvement process that includes monitoring the ongoing effectiveness of treatment and an ongoing quality improvement (QI) project. Centers are encouraged to present the findings of their QI projects through presentation or journal publication.

“This award would not be possible without our dedicated quality personnel and our phenomenal advanced practice providers,” says Holt A. McDowell, Jr., M.D. Endowed Chair of Vascular Surgery Dr. Adam Beck. “The UAB Impact team has also played a critical role in developing structured notes in our electronic medical record system to ensure that we can effectively record procedures and outcomes for long-term follow-up.”

The SVS VQI participation awards program began in 2016 to encourage active participation in the registries program and recognize the importance of that participation.

The mission of the awards program is to improve patient safety and the quality of vascular care delivery by providing web-based collection, aggregation, and analysis of clinical data submitted in registry format for all patients undergoing specific vascular treatments. The VQI operates 14 vascular registries.
