General Surgery Residents take three of four UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) House Staff Council has announced serving officers for the 2023-2024 year, including three General Surgery Residents serving in three of four positions.

The Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine is home to more than 1,200 residents and fellows training in the dozens of programs offered for graduate medical education.

Within the school, the House Staff Council serves as an advocating voice for residents and fellows.

Members of the House Staff Council are appointed representatives who will work alongside leaders from the GME Office in monthly meetings to discuss issues and needs concerning residents and trainees to facilitate solutions and implement change.

House Staff Council Officers:

President: Stephanie Rakestraw, M.D. (General Surgery Residency Program)
Vice-President: Adam Lucy, M.D. (General Surgery Residency Program)
Secretary: Wendelyn Oslock, M.D., MBA (General Surgery Residency Program)
Wellness: Kandala Hyndavi, M.D. (Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program)

“We are excited to support the GME efforts for residents and fellows at UAB. I look forward to working with our great team of residents, fellows, and the GME office during our term this year and this opportunity to continue to represent our General Surgery Residency Program,” said Rakestraw.
