Dr. Jamie CannonUAB Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery Professor Jamie Cannon, M.D., FACS, FASCRS, was recognized as the Florence Flinker Visiting Professor in Colorectal Surgery at the McGill University Health Center in Montreal, Quebec.

During her visit, Cannon delivered the Surgical Grand Rounds lecture “Minimally invasive treatment of rectal cancer” and hosted an hour-long conference, followed by debate and reverse mock oral examinations.

Cannon was also recently selected as a member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Colorectal Residency Review Committee.

Cannon is a leader in minimally invasive approaches to colorectal disease, with an emphasis on robotics, colorectal cancer, and sphincter-sparing operations. She is one of the highest-volume academic colorectal surgeons in the country.

About the Florence Flinker Visiting Professorship in Colorectal Surgery

This is the second year of the visiting professorship, with Dr. Carl Brown of the Surgical Oncology University of British Columbia being the inaugural awardee.

The visiting professorship seeks to promote healthcare professionals with firsthand access to the latest developments and technologies in colorectal surgery research and care.
