The UAB Department of Surgery is proud to welcome two new faculty members - Dr. Kimberly Kopecky and Dr. Rebecca Young.

Dr. Kimberly Kopecky

Kimberly Kopecky, M.D., MSCI, joined the UAB Division of Surgical Oncology as an assistant professor in February of 2024. She obtained her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her residency in general surgery at Stanford Hospital. Dr. Kopecky went on to complete two fellowships — studying hospice and palliative medicine at UW Health University Hospital and surgical oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She also earned a Master of Medical Science in Clinical Investigation from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Dr. Rebecca Young

Rebecca Young, M.D., joined the UAB Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery as a clinical assistant professor in January 2024. She attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and completed her residency in general surgery at the LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Young is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
