The construction of the new Hazelrig-Salter Radiation Oncology Center began in April 2007, and 35 months later the new center opened its doors to the public. The 50,000 square feet clinical, research, and educational facility became UABís major outpatient radiation center and one of the countryís most technologically advanced centers of its size.
In March 2010, the first patients started treatment in the Hazelrig-Salter Radiation Oncology Center. Since then, more than 22,000 treatments have been facilitated in the new state-of-the-art radiation center and thousand of patients have had the opportunity to be treated in a health care atmosphere that is patient-friendly and family-centered.
It has been a successful journey since the grand opening of the center. All faculty, staff, and, most importantly, patients and families have enjoyed the experience of being part of a world-class radiation center.
