In honor of National Employee Appreciation Day, an annual celebration of the efforts made by everyone in the workplace, UAB leadership would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to every member of this institution’s faculty and staff.

“Faculty and staff are the heart of UAB,” said UAB Chief Human Resources Officer Janet May. “We celebrate our faculty and staff for their commitment to our students and the communities we serve, not just today but every day.”

In 2023, UAB received prestigious recognition from the Great Colleges to Work For® program for the first time, highlighting UAB’s strengths in shared governance, faculty experience, job satisfaction, confidence in senior leadership and diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Last year also saw UAB being named one of America’s Best-In-State Large Employers by Forbes, ranking third overall and the top education industry employer. These national accolades underscore the exceptional achievements that UAB has attained thanks to the dedication and excellence of its employees.

“UAB is building on a decade of unprecedented success in all pillars of our mission, and that continued success is driven by the talent and dedication of our people — our greatest asset,” said President Ray Watts. “I thank and applaud our faculty and staff campuswide for the role you play in our shared accomplishments, as we forge ahead together to have an even greater impact on lives throughout our community, state and beyond.”

In the spirit of National Employee Appreciation Day, consider nominating a deserving faculty and staff member for the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching or the UAB Values in Action Program (UAB VIP Award/President’s Award for Excellence in Shared Values). These prestigious awards represent the highest honor reserved for faculty and staff, respectively. Nominations are open now.

UAB Human Resources invites employees to explore the various tools and programs available to support their professional development and enhance their overall well-being. Visit the Faculty & Staff Development page to discover opportunities tailored to an individual’s needs.

As UAB continues to move forward, both as a university and medical center, members of leadership are pleased to recognize the employees who will help shape the future of this institution.
