"Toxic City: Birmingham's Dirty Secret" premieres at Carver Theatre

toxic cityFor decades, the residents of Collegeville, Fairmont, Harriman Park and North Birmingham have been surrounded by heavy industry, where soot and chemicals coat their property — and lungs. Their struggle for health is captured in "Toxic City: Birmingham's Dirty Secret," which premieres at 6:30 p.m. June 12 in the Carver Theatre.

The 26-minute documentary is produced by nonprofit health advocacy organization GASP and directed by Birmingham filmmaker Hunter Nichols. See the trailer on Vimeo.

A panel discussion, led by WBHM 90.3 News Director Rachel Osier Lindley that includes George Munchus, Ph.D. UAB professor of management, and other business and civic leaders follows at 7 p.m.
