UAB recognized for research that improves the health of women

ob gyn awardA paper by UAB investigators led the editors of Obstetrics and Gynecology to reward their department with a $5,000 unrestricted grant for promoting excellence in research that will improve the health care of women.

The annual Roy M. Pitkin Award is presented by the journal to a department whose faculty, fellows or residents published one of the prior year's most outstanding articles, based on scientific merit, importance to the specialty and other elements.

The article, “Surgical Staples Compared With Subcuticular Suture for Skin Closure After Cesarean Delivery: A Randomized Controlled Trial,” was published in January 2013 by members of UAB's Department of Obstetric and Gynecology.
