Teams UAB and UAB Medicine are among more than 25 area corporations that will be vying to bring home the winners belt.

Employees can register to compete for Team UAB and Team UAB Medicine at uab.edu/bhamcorporatechallenge through March 23. There is no cost, and registered participants receive a a 2018 team T-shirt. Team rosters will be posted by March 30 on the UAB Employee Wellness website.

The event features competitions in field day activities for all skill levels — from dodgeball and rock climbing to cornhole. In addition, two events are scheduled earlier in the week — a golf tournament April 19 at Highland Park Golf Course and a bowling event April 20 at Vestavia Bowl.

Participation events, including the 5K Walk/Run and 10K Bike Stroll, are open to all employees and help UAB rack up points, said UAB Employee Wellness Director Anna Threadcraft.

“There’s an event for everyone, and one of the best parts is the opportunity to walk or run an official 5K while earning points for UAB just for participating. We can offer a Couch to 5k plan to encourage employees of all athletic abilities to feel ready to join the fun,” Threadcraft said.

A family-fun zone for children and families will include bouncy houses, face painting, games and Steel City Pops.

Nearly 400 employees signed up to compete with Team UAB and Team UAB Medicine this past year, and participation has grown every year, said Threadcraft.

“This is an opportunity to get to know co-workers, engage in some friendly competition and truly take a day to play outside,” she said.
