Optometry's Benjamin named secretary of national committee

William Benjamin sizedWilliam J. Benjamin, Ph.D., professor of optometry and vision science in the School of Optometry, has been appointed secretary of the American National Standards Institute.

Benjamin succeeds Robert Rosenberg, O.D., of the State University of New York College of Optometry, who had been secretary for 27 years.

The ANSI Z80 Committee is the federally accredited, multidisciplinary body charged with publicizing standards for ophthalmic products, such as spectacle lenses, contact lenses, intraocular lenses, other prosthetic devices and ophthalmic instruments. Its technical experts represent the United States at meetings of the International Organization of Standardization regarding ophthalmic products.
