Sisiopiku named a fellow among transportation engineers

SisiopikuAssociate Professor Virginia Sisiopiku, Ph.D., has been named a fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. She is the first woman in Alabama to hold this professional distinction.

Sisiopiku has more than 20 years experience in traffic operations and safety, simulation modeling and Intelligent Transportation Systems, and she leads the collaboration between UAB and the Southeastern Transportation Research, Innovation, Development and Education Center, a regional university transportation center funded through U. S. Department of Transportation.

"As a transportation professional, my passion is in finding engineering solutions that minimize the adverse impacts of traffic and ensure transportation mobility and accessibility for all users," Sisiopiku said.

Since joining UAB, she also has been a faculty adviser to more than 55 graduate students in transportation engineering and mentored junior faculty and post-doctoral fellows.
