Kieran Quinlan

UAB English Professor Kieran Quinlan, Ph.D., is one of 12 Irish Americans named as one of the “Stars of the South” by Irish America Magazine.

The award, which recognizes the best and brightest Irish Americans in the Southern United States, was presented Oct. 27 at the Commerce Club in Atlanta. In addition to the award, Quinlan and the other winners are featured in the October/November issue of Irish America Magazine.

Quinlan, who was born in Dublin, teaches in the UAB Department of English, specializing in modern American and Irish literature with a special emphasis on writers from the American South.

He has published three books, including John Crowe Ransom’s Secular Faith, Walker Percy, The Last Catholic Novelist and Strange Kin: Ireland and the American South. He also has published essays on W.B. Yeats, T.S. Eliot, Seamus Heaney and Donald Davie.
