CITI: How to Change Groups and Courses

To change your CITI course from Refresher to Basic:
If you completed the Refresher Course before completing the Basic Course in the Protection of Human Subjects (Biomedical or Behavioral), you will need to email citisupport@med.miami.edu and ask them to update your group so that you can complete the appropriate Basic Course. You could use the following text for your email.

Dear CITI Support,
My name is -YOUR NAME AS REGISTERED WITH CITI-, my CITI Member ID is -ENTER YOUR NUMERIC CITI ID-, and I am affiliated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Please update my registration so that I can complete the Basic --BIOMEDICAL -OR- BEHAVIORAL-- Course in the Protection of Human Research Subjects.

YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ON FILE AT CITI


To change your CITI "Group" (1 Biomedical or 2 Social Behavioral)

  1. Sign in to the CITI site at https://www.citiprogram.org/.
    (Contact the OIRB at 934-3789 if you cannot remember your username or password.)
  2. Click "Add a course or update your learner groups"
  3. Click "Update Groups"
  4. Respond to the three questions as shown below:
    1. Choose either "Group 1 (Biomedical Research)" or "Group 2 (Social & Behavioral Research)"
    2. Choose "I have not previously completed an approved Basic Course" for the Basic Course, or Group 1 or 2 if you need only the Refresher Course.
    3. Leave blank unless you want to take the Basic GCP-ICH course for continuing IRB training.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Click Go Back to Learner's Main Menu
  7. Your Grade Book should now show the modules required for the appropriate group.
