Weight Loss And

University of Alabama at Birmingham professors James Hill, Ph.D., and Holly Wyatt, M.D., have launched a new podcast that explores the complexities of weight loss with science, humor and real-life experiences.

Hill, director of the UAB Nutrition Obesity Research Center, and Wyatt, renowned for her work in weight management, including serving as Medical Director of ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss, launched “Weight Loss And…” in January. The two experts, who are professors in the Department of Nutrition Sciences, have more than 50 years’ combined experience in nutrition and weight reduction. They are using their expertise to inspire and guide listeners through their health and wellness journeys beyond New Year’s resolutions.

"This podcast isn't just about losing weight; it's about changing lives and perspectives,” said Hill. “We're using our years of research and clinical experience to help people use science-based strategies for permanent weight management.”

In its first seven episodes, "Weight Loss And..." has covered the best diets, weight loss drugs and how much weight to lose and how fast. They have also debunked myths on metabolism and dedicated one episode to intermittent fasting expert and UAB colleague Courtney Peterson, Ph.D.

Hill and Wyatt say the “And” is the interesting part of nutrition, weight loss and life. Because of this, they designed the podcast to be a vibrant community where science meets real-life stories. Each episode is a blend of expert knowledge, personal anecdotes, and a healthy dose of humor, making the path to permanent weight loss both enlightening and enjoyable.

"Our personal and professional experiences have taught us that weight loss is a unique journey for each individual,” said Wyatt. “'Weight Loss And...' is here to offer insights, support, and a bit of fun to those navigating their path to health."

Hill is an internationally recognized expert in obesity and weight management with more than 650 peer-reviewed articles. He's a co-founder of the National Weight Control Registry and has dedicated his career to understanding and preventing obesity.

Wyatt, with more than 20 years of clinical experience in weight reduction, is known for her holistic and long-term approach to weight management, focusing on behavioral treatment, dietary therapy, and lifestyle transformation.
