BIRMINGHAM, AL - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is gearing up for an exciting and inclusive celebration as "Coming Out on the Green Week 2023: Faeries and Fright: Legends Come Alive" approaches. This week-long celebration, hosted by Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs in collaboration with Queer Peers, Social Justice Advocacy Council, Free Food for Thought, BMEN, and the Black Student Awareness Committee, promises to be a series of engaging activities and discussions that aims to foster diversity, inclusion, and awareness within the UAB community.

Here's a sneak peek at the lineup of events:

Event 1: Ballroom Bootcamp

Date: Monday, Oct. 9

Venue: Hill Student Center Ballrooms

Time: 5:00 - 8:00 pm

Learn about the history of Ballroom, as well as free Vogue dancing, costume design, face art/makeup, and stage presence workshops from local drag performers. RSVP here.

Event 2: Queer Movie Showing and Discussion: Paris is Burning

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 10

Venue: Hill Student Center Ballrooms

Time: 5:30 - 6:30 pm

An insightful screening of the documentary "Paris is Burning" followed by a thought-provoking discussion. Participants will learn more about Black and Latine Queer culture.

Event 3: Coming Out on the Green Tabling

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 11

Venue: Campus Green

Time: 12:00 - 3:00 pm

Visit the Campus Green to meet organizations at UAB that support the LGBTQ+ community. Explore resources and information during Coming Out on the Green Tabling. Free food will also be available.

Event 4: Dine n' Discuss: Exploring Queer Identities in Fantasy

Date: Thursday, Oct. 12

Venue: Gold Hall Underground

Time: 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Join us for a captivating evening of exploration and dialogue as we have a conversation on queer identities in fantasy and RPG games at Dine n' Discuss. Free dinner will be served. Click here to RSVP.

Event 5: Third Annual Drag Ball

Date: Friday, Oct. 13

Venue: Hill Student Center Amphitheater

Time: 6:00 - 9:00 pm

The grand finale of Coming Out on the Green Week, the third annual Drag Ball promises an evening of glamour, fabulous performances, and celebration.


UAB invites all students, faculty, and staff, as well as the wider community, to participate in this empowering event that celebrates diversity, unity, and acceptance. Don't miss out on this fantastic experience, which promise to bring legends to life in a uniquely inclusive way.
