Introduction

University Programs Board

The University Programs Board (UPB) works as a cohesive unit to plan, market, and execute events for the student body. UPB strives to provide free, quality entertainment that will ultimately provide opportunities that connect students to campus.

Mission:

To foster students' connections to both the campus & Birmingham communities by providing opportunities for engagement through student-led signature and monthly programming.

Goals:

  1. Provide opportunities for students to make connections with their peers and develop a sense of belonging and institutional pride.
  2. Expose students and the UAB community to a broad range of traditional and contemporary activities for both leisure and educational purposes.
  3. Collaborate with other Student Activities Boards and campus partners to create intentional programming opportunities for students and advance campus engagement.
  4. Develop a sustainable, inclusive framework for planning and promoting spirit and tradition events and initiatives.

Values:

  • Service- Programming is a service to the 20,000 students on campus. We believe in encouraging students to take ownership of their commitment to serve their campus community.
  • Community- We believe in fostering a sense of belonging among the UAB student body through activities that provide opportunities to make positive connections and build long-lasting relationships.
  • Collaboration - We believe in Interdependent co-operation at all levels, ensuring full and appropriate delegation of responsibility takes place.
  • Creativity- We believe in encouraging the transcendence of traditional ideas to create meaningful new ideas, relationships, and opportunities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have completed 12 hours at UAB prior to applying & maintain 12 hours of enrollment during the 2021-2022 academic year
  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative UAB GPA the semester prior to applying & maintain a 2.5 cumulative UAB GPA during the 2021-2022 academic year
  • Must be able to meet bi-weekly during the Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters. Fall and Spring meetings are at 4 pm every 1st and 3rd Monday.

University Programs Board Structure

  • Executive Director

    The Executive Director (ED) provides guidance and support in the planning and implementation for all events and initiatives and provides leadership to the executive board through meeting management and teambuilding activities. The also ED assists with assessment and budget management.

  • Blazer Connections Committee

    The Blazer Connections committee is responsible for planning and implementing engaging programs and activities geared towards helping students make lasting connections with one another. The events include, but are not limited to, Magic City Adventures, UPB 4th Wednesdays, and Stress Less Week programs.

  • Blazer Productions Committee

    The Blazer Productions committee is responsible for planning and hosting programs that highlight the talents, cultures, and leadership abilities of UAB community members. Blazer Productions events include, but are not limited to, UPB 2nd Tuesdays, UAB’s Got Talent Scholarship Competition, and the Blazer Cuisine Cooking Series.

  • First Impact Committee

    The First Impact Program is designed to provide leadership opportunities for new freshman and new transfer students. Members of the program that are assigned to UPB will work to support the events planned by the executive board by attending biweekly board meetings, staffing events, providing feedback throughout the planning process.   • General Body

    Students who are interested in helping UPB come up with creative new ways to serve the student body are encouraged to join the UPB General Body. General Body members assist the organization by staffing events, preparing event spaces, publicizing upcoming events and initiatives, and brainstorming new ideas. UPB selects 8-10 First Impact applicants each year to volunteer for programming throughout the year.
