What is Peer Education?

Peer education is a peer-driven educational service where specialty trained peer educators provide educational materials and resources for students, clubs, and organizations.

Creating a Culture of Peer Education

Wellness Promotion is committed to cultivating a culture of peer education that allows Blazers to meet their well-being goals. Wellness Promotion is the home of the Promoters of Wellness (POW) program. POW peer educators are available for workshops, trainings, and educational programming on interpersonal violence prevention, substance use prevention, substance use disorder recovery, and mental health. POW students have undergone extensive training through completing a semester-long peer education course, and have passed a national exam to become a Certified Peer Educator.

Peer education groups that focus on health and well-being are invited to become POW Partners. Current partnerships include Housing and Residence Life Peer Wellness Ambassadors, UPlift UAB, and Regions Institute for Financial Excellence Financial Peer Coaching. POW Partner groups must have a health and well-being focus, and peer educators in these groups are required to pass the Certified Peer Education exam.
