Blazer Kitchen seeks to promote food security at UAB
Since its creation in March 2017, Blazer Kitchen—an on-campus food pantry designed to address food insecurity amongst UAB employees, students and referred patients—has provided enough food for over 550,000 meals. In the last year, Blazer Kitchen has provided almost 145,000 meals to nearly 300 employees and 1,500 students and counting to UAB community members facing food insecurity.
Blazer Kitchen is supported by the UAB Benevolent Fund with the purpose of increasing food security in the Blazer family by providing healthy food, resources and referrals to members and their families, all while making sure those who visit are treated with dignity, compassion and integrity. Members of the UAB community can shop at Blazer Kitchen just as they would at a grocery store but at no cost. Blazer Kitchen offers multiple convenient locations around campus and has engaged over 1,200 student volunteers in the fight against hunger at UAB.
