The Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts creates an exceptional visual arts center and a dynamic Arts Plaza that will culturally enrich UAB and the city of Birmingham. Designed by internationally acclaimed architect Randall Stout, the Institute for the Visual Arts serves UAB’s mission to educate, inform and inspire artists and arts patrons about the importance of the visual arts throughout the state of Alabama. The Institute for the Visual Arts is located directly across the street from the Alys Stephens Center. This proximity will develop a greater sense of community for students and faculty and opportunities for collaboration and interaction with other arts agencies in the city of Birmingham. Gifts to the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts will enhance education and training for art students and educate non-art students about the importance of the visual arts in their lives, inspiring them to become future arts patrons.
