The UAB Department of Social Work offers four program options for admitted MSW students. Students are approved for Advanced Standing if they have a BSW degree from a CSWE-accredited social work program, while students with undergraduate degrees in subjects other than social work follow the Regular Program curriculum. A Full-Time and Part-Time option is available for both Advanced Standing and Regular Program students.

The Full-Time program options are completed in either three semesters (for Advanced Standing students) or four semesters (two calendar years, for Regular Program students). The new Part-Time option is designed for students who need to maintain outside employment while completing their MSW degree or who wish to complete their degree at a more relaxed pace. Advanced Standing students complete the Part-Time program in two and a half years and Regular Program students complete the Part-Time program in four years.
