Mark LaGory

Mark LaGory received his PhD in Sociology in 1975 from the University of Cincinnati. He is an urban sociologist whose primary research focus was the role of place and social capital in mediating stressful environmental circumstances such as poverty, homelessness, pollution, and aging. He has coauthored six books on various topics within the area of urban ecology. His over 50 articles appeared in journals such as: Social Psychology Quarterly, Symbolic Interaction, The Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Journal of Health Psychology, Social Science and Medicine, American Journal of Public Health, Social Problems, City and Community, Urban Affairs Quarterly, The Sociological Quarterly, Journal of Gerontology, Justice Quarterly, and Social Work. He is an ordained Episcopal deacon, and a member of the clergy staff at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Birmingham.
