With the organization since 1978, Charles C. "Chuck" Stewart serves as president and chief operating officer of Walter Coke and Walter Minerals, two of Walter Energy's subsidiaries. He also has oversight for the company's operations in West Virginia and Wales. Prior to his current status, Stewart held a number of progressively responsible leadership roles within the Walter Energy group, including vice president of operations of Sloss Industries (now Walter Coke) and vice president-engineering, general manager-purchasing and materials control, and general manager-safety and training, all with Jim Walter Resources. He also played various multiple engineering and mine management roles. Stewart is a board member of the Sloss Furnace Museum and a trustee of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, and has served on several mining and manufacturing boards at both the state and national levels. He holds an M.B.A. degree from Samford University and a bachelor's degree in mineral engineering from the University of Alabama.
