Student looking at models on a computer screen. The Ph.D. in Materials Engineering is a diverse degree that is designed to help prepare students for careers in advanced materials engineering research in a variety of industrial and academic settings. The program is a joint program between the UAB Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the University of Alabama Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

The program includes separate Ph.D. tracks for students entering with baccalaureate degrees and for students entering with master’s degrees in materials or metallurgical engineering (or a similarly named program).
