Research and Teaching Interests: Metals characterization, manufacturing of metals

Office Hours: By appointment only

Education:

  • B.S., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Metallurgical Engineering
  • M.S., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Metallurgical Engineering
  • Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison, Metallurgical Engineering

Robin Foley specializes in the characterization of metals for manufacturing. She has won a number of awards for her research and this year, will receive the Scientific Merit Award from the American Foundry Society.

She is currently both the undergraduate program coordinate and ABET coordinator for Materials Engineering at UAB. She is also active in improving safety at UAB. She recently served as co-chair of a task force for increasing the culture of safety at UAB and she serves as chair of the UAB Chemical Safety Committee.

Robin Foley teaches the introductory materials engineering courses for industrial distribution students and for biomedical, mechanical and materials engineering students. She also teaches both undergraduate and graduate characterization of materials. She has twice won the UAB Presidential teaching award and in 2011 won the Ellen Gregg Ingalls UAB National Alumni Society Award for Lifetime Achievement in Teaching.

  • Research Interests

Robin Foley is part of the Materials Engineering metals research group. She works collaboratively with Professors John Griffin and Charlie Monroe working to enhance the production of metals in American manufacturing. She enjoys doing research on practical engineering problems.
