UAB’s policy on personal holidays requires non-essential services biweekly-paid full-time regular employees to take any unused personal holidays by the last biweekly pay period with a June pay date. Non-essential services are departments on the campus or in the hospital that receive nine designated holidays per year, and three days (24 hours) of personal holiday time each year. For 2022, that means biweekly employees in this category must take their remaining personal holidays during the June 5-June 18 pay period, or they will be automatically forfeited. The new personal holiday balance for the 2022/2023 period will be reflected on the June 19-July 2 pay period deposit statement.

Non-essential services monthly-paid employees must have their personal holidays submitted and approved in eLAS by June 30 or they will be forfeited. The new personal holiday balance for 2022/2023 period will be reflected in eLAS on July 1.

Essential and part-time employees with more than 12 personal holidays accrued must use the excess days or they will be automatically forfeited — biweekly employees, no later than the June 5-June 18 pay period; monthly employees by June 30. Personal holidays must be taken prior to notice of termination; they will not be paid as terminal leave or during the period of notice.
