To better secure UAB computers, UAB IT has selected a new vendor to provide endpoint protection — considered “next-generation anti-virus” — that allows UAB IT to secure user devices such as desktops, laptops and servers from being exploited by malicious attacks.

The endpoint protection tool offers around-the-clock monitoring and provides a higher likelihood of preventing a system compromise. Beginning Monday, Oct. 5, there will be a phased installation across campus using Microsoft SCCM.

The new tool was selected after UAB IT partnered with five units across campus to test different tools across 750 devices and systems.

Other than increased security, the only visible difference you should see is a new icon in your Windows system tray (see below).
