Dr. Richard Shelton was recruited to establish the UAB Mood Disorders Program in February 2012. The program grew over the intervening years with the addition of faculty, clinical, and research staff, and the expansion of clinical services. The Program was designated The UAB Depression and Suicide Center in September 2018. Over the years the Center has grown in research funding from the NIH, other federal agencies, industry, and foundations. Our research spans basic laboratory, brain imaging, human genomics, and clinical applied programs. We offer the most comprehensive range of clinical services in the state of Alabama. Our Center has benefited from strong community and philanthropy support and we continue to grow our programs and faculty.
