The Office for Diversity & Inclusion provides an award up to $500 for students who are members of the Heersink School of Medicine Student Organization, Learning Community, or the Student Senate to attend a conference. The award is offered as a supplemental reimbursement to cover expenses related to transportation, lodging, and registration.

Eligibility

The following are the requirements for eligibility to receive consideration for a travel award:

1. Applicants must be enrolled as a medical student at UAB through the Heersink School of Medicine, in good academic standing, and both enrolled at the time of travel and the time of reimbursement.
2. All student travel must be sponsored and authorized by a UAB School of Medicine Student Organization, Learning Community, or the Student Senate. 
3. M.D./Ph.D students are eligible to apply for ODI funding (prior approval needed).
4. Each student is eligible to receive a maximum of three travel awards while enrolled at UAB. NO EXCEPTIONS.
5. Eligibility that is not explicitly defined is determined on a case-by-case basis by the PSDO Director.
6. Where applicable, if a student is a member of a national society, the participant must be in good standing as a national member of the organization.
