The Department of Family and Community Medicine founded the Office of Leadership and Professional Development (OLPD) in 2020 to assist faculty and staff in their professional development and growth as leaders in the medical field and beyond. The OLPD focuses on improving effectiveness in the following areas:

  • Emotional Intelligence

  • Resilience

  • Leadership and Professionalism 

  • Communication and Feedback

  • Conflict Management 

  • Teaching and Learning

  • Mindfulness

Resources and Services 

The OLPD offers the following resources and services focused on leadership and professional development for teams or leaders. While these resources and services are free for any Department of Family and Community Medicine employee, they are also available through a fee-for-service basis for any individual or organization. As a new office, our primary goal is to increase the reach of our services on UAB's campus.
