RFA Details: Research Projects
Research projects may be conducted solely through UAB, or through collaborative associations that have been developed and/or are planned with other SPOREs and/or with other investigators in the biomedical research community.
The proposed project must meet the definition of translational research. Investigators who are not certain about whether their project fits this definition are advised to contact Burt Nabors, M.D., at bnabors@uabmc.edu, or Ichiro Nakano, M.D., Ph.D., at inakano@uabmc.edu. Projects containing basic research (e.g., employing animal models or cell lines) qualify as translational if a human application is included in the specific aims.
Research Project Proposals must include:
- Title of the project and names of research and clinical/translational co-leaders (if identified)
- Provide a list of current and previous NIH/Federal funding (junior investigators are encouraged to apply and may be partnered with senior investigators if necessary)
- Specific aims (one page)
- Proposal summary/outline to include background and preliminary data (maximum of three pages). Therapeutic trials need to address the following about their proposed drug:
- Explain whether the drug is FDA approved
- Is the drug available from a company (who holds the IP rights)? Do you have a contact or established relationship with the company? How will it be supplied?
- Provide preliminary data about its use in glioblastoma (if any)
- Provide preliminary data about its ability to get through the blood brain barrier (if any)
