cvbe-group-shot.jpgCelebrating its tenth anniversary, the Cardiovascular Bioengineering (CVBE) Symposium 2026 took place in Göttingen, Germany.

The three-day event brought together leading researchers and clinicians in cardiovascular repair and regeneration, with expertise spanning fundamental research into regenerative mechanisms, cardiovascular disease modeling, preclinical strategies, and updating the clinical trials for myocardial repair.

This year’s topics included novel findings in developmental biology, in vitro and in silico modeling, regenerative intercellular crosstalk, regulation of cardiomyocyte proliferation in mammalian fetal and neonatal heart, gene and cell- or cell products- therapies, and late-breaking early clinical trial results. The symposium also featured over 50 early-career poster presentations and eight research awards.

Along with this, the symposium featured keynote lectures by Nobel laureates Stefan Hell, Ph.D., and Erwin Neher, Ph.D., of the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences. Attendees also heard from editor-in-chief Michael Basson, Ph.D., of Nature Medicine, senior editors Joana Osório, Ph.D., of Science, and Chloe Wilson, M.D., of The Lancet, who shared insights into the scope and editorial processes of their journals.

This year’s organizing committee included Jianyi “Jay” Zhang, M.D., Ph.D., FAHA, professor and chair in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Wolfram-Hubertus Zimmermann, M.D., professor of pharmacology at the University Medical Center Göttingen.
