The Department of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology (CDIB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Monica Vasiliu, Ph.D., as Executive Administrator.
Vasiliu joins the department from the Department of Medicine Division of Nephrology, where she served as Program Director III. She brings extensive experience in research administration, financial management, strategic planning, and oversight of NIH-funded programs.
“Throughout the search process, Dr. Vasiliu distinguished herself through her leadership experience, collaborative approach, strong financial and administrative expertise, and commitment to supporting faculty, staff, and trainees,” said Bradley Yoder, Ph.D., University of Alabama Health Services Foundation Endowed Chair in Biomedical Research and chair of the Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology.
“We are confident that she will be an outstanding addition to CDIB and will play a key role in advancing the department’s research, education, and service missions.”
During her time in the Division of Nephrology, Vasiliu led several large, multi-institutional NIH-funded research and training programs, including the UAB–UCSD O'Brien Center for Acute Kidney Injury Research and the Deep South KUH PRIME U2C/TL1 training program. In these roles, she has managed complex grant portfolios, oversaw multi-million-dollar budgets, coordinated cross-institutional collaborations, and partnered closely with faculty and institutional leadership to advance research excellence and support program growth.
Before transitioning into research administration, Vasiliu built an accomplished scientific career as a computational chemist. She earned her Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Alabama. Her experience as both a scientist and an administrator provides her with a unique understanding of the needs and challenges facing research faculty and trainees.
“Joining the CDIB team is an exciting next step in my career, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support its outstanding faculty, staff, and trainees,” said Vasiliu. “CDIB has a strong reputation for excellence in research and education, and I look forward to working collaboratively with the department to advance its mission and contribute to its continued success."
