Omosefe Ogbeifun, M.D.Omosefe Ogbeifun, M.D.Omosefe Ogbeifun, M.D., MPH, an Obesity Medicine fellow in the UAB Department of Medicine Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, was accepted into the 2026 American Diabetes Association (ADA) Scholars Program, a career development program that supports early-career professionals who treat and/or research diabetes and its complications.

As an ADA Scholar, Ogbeifun will have strategic opportunities to receive career guidance, network with peers, and interact with senior leaders in the field of diabetes care through virtual and in-person professional education sessions and workshops including the scholars program at the 2026 ADA Scientific Sessions in New Orleans, June 5-8.

Under the mentorship of Monica Agarwal, M.D., director of the UAB Obesity Medicine Fellowship Program and professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Ogbeifun’s current clinical and academic focus is centered on obesity medicine, diabetes prevention, and metabolic health, particularly leveraging obesity management as a critical, modifiable lever to prevent Type 2 diabetes and related chronic diseases.

“I am especially interested in preventive care, lifestyle, and pharmacologic interventions for obesity management, and integrating metabolic health strategies into long-term disease prevention and population health,” Ogbeifun said.

She said being selected as an ADA Scholar is a tremendous honor and an important step in her career.

“I’m especially excited about the opportunity to learn, grow academically, and connect with mentors and colleagues who are passionate about advancing diabetes care,” Ogbeifun said. “This program also feels like a meaningful bridge between my work in primary care and public health and my interest in metabolic health and research. I look forward to contributing to better prevention strategies for patients living with obesity and Type 2 diabetes through clinical care, research, and education.”

Ogbeifun will complete her Obesity Medicine fellowship in June 2026. She previously completed the Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship and a Family Medicine Residency through the Cahaba Family Medicine Residency Program, both in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine. She holds a Master of Public Health from the University of West Florida, and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.D.) from the University of Benin, Nigeria.
