Dean's Excellence Award winner profile: Adam Wende, Ph.D.

Written by

Adam Wende, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Pathology, is one of two junior faculty winners for the Dean's Excellence Award in Research.

Wende received his Ph.D. in Mollecular and Cellular Biology from Washington University. After completing his thesis work, he joined the University of Utah to pursue his postdoctoral studies with Dr. E. Dale Abel examining upstream regulation by cellular signaling and the resulting changes in mitochondrial physiology. In August of 2013, he joined the faculty at UAB in the Division of Molecular and Cellular Pathology. Wende's work has been funded by the American Heart Association, the JDRF, and most recently by an NIH R01 award. He has expanded his independent research program through use of transgenic and diabetes mouse models to identify molecular and genetic mechanisms of glucose-mediated control of mitochondrial function.
