Vineeta Kumar, M.D., professor in the Department of Medicine's Division of Nephrology, is one of two senior faculty winners for the Dean's Excellence Award in Teaching.
In addition to teaching, Kumar serves as the director for the Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Program. For Kumar, teaching is part of her calling, and she always leaves each teaching encounter asking herself how she can improve. Kumars says she feels a deep obligation to pay it forward and to continue to inspire those around her the same way other leaders at UAB have done for her. Her research interests include kidney transplantation, living kidney donors, incompatible kidney transplant, antibody mediated rejection (prevention, treatment and prognosis), kidney paired donation and cardiovascular outcomes after kidney transplantation. Kumar recently received the 2017 Brewer-Heslin Endowed Award for Professionalism in Medicine.
