It is with great excitement that we announce a new upcoming mailing featuring resources for women faculty and staff.
As we press forward in our ongoing endeavor to ensure UAB Medicine carries the banner of excellence into the future with courage and dedication, it’s important that we occasionally pause and acknowledge areas for growth, embrace strong new initiatives, and promote the contributions made by our diverse group of professionals.
Tremendous gains have been made on a national and global scale toward gender equity, but national studies show that women still face greater barriers in employment, pay, advancement, and mentorship than do their male counterparts. Here at UAB, we have engaged in meaningful and broad-ranging initiatives to recognize our women colleagues on the UAB team for their valued and crucial contributions to our work and mission. In an institution of UAB’s size, however, it is easy to miss opportunities for networking, mentorship, and sponsorship. Although we are fortunate to have a resilient and robust infrastructure of groups and initiatives for the women of UAB Medicine, it is important for us to continue to work to raise awareness of these opportunities.
For these reasons, we are delighted to announce we are launching a new monthly mailing: UAB Women in Medicine and Science. This short digital publication will highlight recent and upcoming events and opportunities, and include regular profiles of our exceptional staff, faculty, and students.
