Titer KeAndreaKeAndrea Titer, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and clinician for the Hospital Medicine Service, has been awarded the junior faculty 2022 Dean’s Excellence Award for Diversity Enhancement.

Titer cultivates diversity in academic medicine locally, nationally, and globally. She serves as a superb role model for UAB medical students in didactic and clinical settings, and she advises junior faculty in a UAB peer-mentoring program.

Since joining UAB faculty in 2019, Titer has co-developed a formal curriculum to address microaggressions against resident trainees entitled “Supporting Trainees by Addressing Microaggressions by Patients (STAMP).”

STAMP has opened the door for safe and honest discussions about the racial and gender derogations commonplace in clinical care. Titer presents this curriculum at professional organizations and universities across the country, and she has secured funding to expand the curriculum using an innovative online education model.

Titer is a driving force in attracting talented residents from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine to train at UAB, helping design the Heersink School of Medicine Second Look Weekend event where all GME programs participate during recruitment season.

A graduate of Loma Linda University, Titer is the inaugural associate director of Diversity and Inclusion, former president of the Diversity Enrichment Committee, and a member of the Dean’s Council for Medical Education, Diversity Subcommittee.

Titer also advances diversity, equity, and inclusion as a board member in the Society of Bedside Medicine and as a member of the Stanford Center for Health Policy/Primary Care Outcomes and Research.
