Golfers of all levels gathered at Highland Park Golf Course for a day of games, prizes, and fundraising for an impactful cornerstone in the Birmingham community.

EAB is a free clinic run by Heersink medical students. Its mission is to provide medical care to the city’s uninsured and underserved community members. It also serves as a service-learning opportunity for students, adding meaningful hands-on work to their medical education.

The clinic hosts several patient health events and fundraisers throughout the year to help ensure these services remain available to the community. EAB on the Green and the EAB Heart + Sole 5K are its two primary annual events.

“The golf tournament is a testament of the creativity and hard work of our amazing student officers, who brought the idea of a golf tournament to life,” said Natasha Mehra, M.D., director for Equal Access Birmingham. “It's a fun event that brings together people from across UAB and the Birmingham community. This was our third year putting on the golf tournament, and it has surpassed our other fundraisers. I am incredibly grateful for all of our volunteers, donors, and the Highland Golf Course team who made this event so successful. I am already looking forward to next year's tournament!”

This year, the tournament featured 76 players across 28 sponsorship team registrations. The event raised a net total of $21,500 for the EAB clinic. In addition to sponsored teams, 11 units from Heersink School of Medicine, including the Montgomery Regional Campus, sponsored signage for the event. From the Dept of Medical Education, the International Medical Education Office sponsored a team this year, which was composed of medical students playing in the tournament. After the tournament, players gathered for lunch and an awards ceremony.
