Marissa Natelson Love, M.D., associate professor in the UAB Department of Neurology, has been selected as a recipient of the Association of Academic Leaders of Neurology (AALN) Faculty Leadership Award.
The AALN Faculty Leadership Award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate exceptional leadership within their departments and contribute to the advancement of academic neurology.
Natelson Love serves as Medical Student Clerkship Director for the Department of Neurology, a role in which she developed an advanced clerkship elective in cognitive neurology for fourth-year medical students.
In addition, she developed the UAB Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry fellowship, for which she was responsible for the planning, design, and application, and now serves as program director. She has also led the department’s Women in Neurology group and proposed developing a formal mentoring program that could serve as a model for a department-wide approach.
“I am deeply honored to serve the UAB Department of Neurology while pursuing work that I find both meaningful and rewarding,” Natelson Love said.
Natelson Love was nominated by David G. Standaert, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair, UAB Department of Neurology, and John N. Whitaker Endowed Chair in Neurology.
“Dr. Natelson Love is an exceptionally talented and caring physician with subspecialty training in Memory Disorders and Behavioral Neurology,” Standaert said. “She has taken leadership roles in a number of areas in our department and school and is seeking to develop these skills further.”
The AALN traces its roots to 1967, when it was founded as the Association of University Professors of Neurology (AUPN). The organization supports the advancement of academic neurology through education, research, and clinical care.
In 2025, AUPN formally became AALN, expanding its focus to a broader community of leaders in academic neurology and clinical neuroscience.
