Mason Aldridge, MSN, RN, a newly-welcomed advanced practice provider (APP) in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery, has already forged a noteworthy career in both nursing care and advocacy.
The Fayette County, Alabama, native began his professional nursing journey after earning his BSN from University of Alabama in 2022. He then moved to Rochester, Minnesota, to begin his career at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in the Mayo Clinic Hospital's St. Marys Campus. After returning home to Alabama, he joined UAB Medicine’s Cardiopulmonary Critical Care (CPCC) Unit in 2023 and completed his MSN at the University of Alabama in 2026.
While Aldridge’s nursing career has taken him across the country and back, he carries a deep passion for advocacy wherever he goes. He began his work with the Alabama State Nurses Association (ASNA) in 2023, where he became a new graduate liaison. In this role, Aldridge taught recent graduates how to avoid burnout, make connections with coworkers and maintain work-life balance. He also helped increase student membership and helped revitalize protective legislative action in Montgomery, advocating for workplace safety and pay transparency. He was elected president-elect of ASNA in 2024 and is slated to begin his 2-year presidency in October 2026.
Aldridge’s devotion to advocacy stems from his own experience with mentorship in his nursing career. As a male nurse, he hopes to continue breaking down gendered stereotypes that exist within the profession, paving the way for dedicated practitioners of any background.
