Victoria Faber has joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery as a researcher in the research lab of David Hart White Endowed Professor Erwin Van Meir, Ph.D.
Faber earned her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She later completed a Master of Science in biological sciences at the University of Alabama. Her master’s thesis, conducted in the research lab of Associate Professor of Biological Sciences Stanislava Chtarbanova-Rudloff, Ph.D.,, focused on investigating age-dependent immunity following viral infections.
She most recently served as a research specialist in the UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences, where she examined the relationships among kynurenine metabolism, neuronal syndecan and Alzheimer’s disease using Drosophila melanogaster models. Her background in molecular biology and translational research brings valuable scientific expertise to the Van Meir lab.
Outside of the lab, Faber trains and competes as an elite pole vaulter. She also enjoys meal prepping and developing new dessert recipes.
