He initially trained in general surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and then began his neurosurgical residency at the University of Wisconsin. He later completed a two-year fellowship in functional and epilepsy surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

From 2001 to 2026, Hadar served as a neurosurgeon at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In collaboration with colleagues in neurology, he helped establish clinical programs in deep brain stimulation for movement disorders and in epilepsy surgery, leading them for more than two decades. He also maintained a general neurosurgery practice, treating a wide range of cranial and spinal conditions.

During his tenure at UNC, Hadar held several leadership roles, including 16 years as the neurosurgery residency program director, during which he oversaw the expansion of the program’s size and clinical training opportunities. He also served for more than 10 years on the UNC Hospitals Professional Liability Committee, including five years as chair.

Hadar’s wife, Janet, is a health care executive. In their free time, they enjoy traveling and outdoor activities such as running, cycling and skiing. They have two grown sons who are pursuing graduate business degrees.

“I believe Dr. Hadar will be an impactful addition to our department and I am delighted to have him on our team.” says James Garber Galbraith Endowed Chair of Neurosurgery and Department of Neurosurgery Professor James Markert, M.D., MPH.
