UAB Medicine has been named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2025 list of “100 Great Neuro and Spine Programs,” which recognizes hospitals and health systems that demonstrate excellence in neuroscience and spine care.

Each year, Becker’s identifies leading programs nationwide through editorial research and nominations, highlighting institutions with exceptional patient outcomes, advanced surgical expertise, multidisciplinary care models and research-driven innovation.

UAB Medicine’s inclusion in the list reflects the institution’s highly collaborative care model that brings together neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, rehabilitation specialists and pain management experts to ensure coordinated care from diagnosis through recovery.

Together, the teams provide advanced care for the full spectrum of spinal conditions, performing more than 1,200 spine procedures annually using evidence-based, coordinated, patient-centered approaches.

Becker’s also highlighted that UAB was the first hospital in the Birmingham area to introduce the ExcelsiusGPS robotic spine system, enhancing surgical precision and supporting minimally invasive procedures.

Beyond clinical care, UAB’s spine and neuroscience programs are grounded in innovation and research, supported by more than $5 million in funding over the past year. This commitment has earned national recognition, including The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for advanced spine surgery certification and a “high performing” ranking in back surgery and spinal fusion from U.S. News & World Report for 2025–26.
