Alireza Ghezavati, M.D.
The UAB Department of Pathology is pleased to announce a new faculty member joining our team, effective May 4.
Alireza Ghezavati, M.D., is joining the Division of Laboratory Medicine as an assistant professor. Ghezavati joins us from Quest Diagnostics in Oklahoma City where he worked as a hospital hematopathologist since 2025. Prior to this, he served as an assistant professor of clinical pathology and hematopathologist at UC Davis Health in Sacramento.
Ghezavati earned his medical degree in 2005 from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran. He completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2023. Following residency, Ghezavati completed a one-year fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 2024. After receiving his medical degree, he completed a Master of Science in Health Informatics from the University of San Francisco in 2020.
Since 2024, Ghezavati has taught hematopathology to pathology residents, fellows, and medical students. He has authored nine peer reviewed publications and abstracts, reviewed four articles, and given numerous presentations. He is affiliated with several professional societies, including the International Society for Laboratory Hematology, Society for Hematopathology, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. Ghezavati serves on the Program Evaluation Committee for the UC Davis Health Hematopathology Fellowship.
