james scott 2021web600Scott James, M.D., associate professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, has been appointed Treasurer of the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties Executive Committee (CoPS).

James has been actively involved with CoPS since 2021 and serves as one of two national representatives for pediatric infectious diseases. His appointment to the Executive Committee reflects both his leadership within the field and his commitment to advancing collaboration across pediatric subspecialties.

“Serving on the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” said James. “I’m honored to have been elected as an officer of the CoPS Executive Committee and I am excited to press further into the good work we are doing together.”

CoPS is a national organization that brings together pediatric subspecialty societies to address shared challenges and strengthen the pediatric workforce. Through its broad and diverse membership, the organization promotes collaboration, advocacy and innovation across disciplines.

James said one of the most impactful aspects of his work with CoPS has been the opportunity to engage with leaders from across pediatric medicine and partner organizations.

“As I have gotten to know and work with leaders from other pediatric fields and allied pediatric organizations, it has strengthened my commitment to build consensus, learn from one another and band together to effect positive changes that will benefit individual subspecialties, our pediatric field as a whole and, most importantly, the patients we care for,” said James.

In his new role as Treasurer, James will help guide the organization’s financial strategy while continuing to support its mission of advancing pediatric subspecialty care nationwide.

Congratulations Dr. James!
