For the past three years, Jalisa Lankford has been a steady and motivating presence within the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, serving as an administrative supervisor who balances leadership, efficiency and compassion in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Although Lankford has been part of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for 10 years, her time in Pediatrics has been especially meaningful. She credits UAB with providing a space where she can grow professionally while staying true to herself. “UAB aligns with who I am,” said Lankford. “I am a driven, multi-hyphenate powerhouse, a healthcare leader, beauty lover and fitness-focused professional. UAB has allowed me to be professional, ambitious and still me.”
In her role, no two days look the same. Lankford oversees daily clinic operations while supporting and leading the administrative team. She focuses on maintaining efficient patient flow, training staff, resolving issues in real time and collaborating with faculty, staff and patient access teams to improve workflows. She also assists with onboarding, performance management and addressing patient concerns. Her goal each day is to create a positive work environment while ensuring families receive timely, high-quality care.
When asked to describe her job in one word, Lankford did not hesitate. “Challenging. Nothing a pediatric superhero can’t withstand.”
What she enjoys most about working in the division is the people. She values her administrative team and the opportunity to care for patients and their families. That dedication extends beyond the clinic. In addition to her supervisory role, Lankford is a second-year coach for the Birmingham Heart Walk with UAB Medicine, where she encourages participation, supports fundraising efforts and motivates teammates. She says the experience reflects her passion for wellness, community involvement and leading by example.
Outside of work, Lankford enjoys staying active through fitness, expressing creativity through makeup and lashes and indulging in retail therapy. When it comes to local favorites, she recommends Perry’s Steakhouse or Farrelly’s Restaurant.
