The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Pediatrics has named Steven Marchman director of financial research.
In this role, Marchman will oversee the department’s research finance operations, support pre-award and post-award activities and strengthen financial partnerships across the department’s divisions.
Marchman joined the Department of Pediatrics in 2024 and said it quickly became clear he had found a professional home. He credits the department’s collaborative culture and commitment to improving children’s health as the reasons he wanted to build his career at UAB.
“What stood out to me most were the people,” said Marchman. “The research that is being done here will save the lives of countless children, not only in the immediate future, but in the many years to come.”
Being selected to lead the department’s research finance efforts has renewed Marchman’s commitment to supporting Pediatrics’ growing research enterprise. He said he looks forward to enhancing financial processes, strengthening relationships with divisions and implementing improvements that will benefit the department now and in the future.
“I felt an unbelievable honor and a renewed commitment to this department,” explained Marchman. “The best thing about this new position is the privilege of working with such a great group of people and any success that I might have is directly attributed to the hard work and dedication of these individuals.”
Marchman said he looks forward to continuing to support the Department of Pediatrics’ research mission by working closely with faculty, staff and division leaders to advance research that improves the lives of children.
