Get to know him better with these three questions!
What do you look forward to about training in your department and/or UAB in general?
Gautam: I look forward to training at UAB for its collaborative environment and commitment to innovation in therapeutic medical physics residency. I am eager to gain experience with advanced technologies, including LINAC-based SRS/SBRT, the Ethos adaptive platform, and the Varian proton system.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
Gautam: Outside of training, I enjoy hiking, long walks, and meditation.
What hobby or activity do you wish you had more time for?
Gautam: I wish I had more time to slow down and fully enjoy the moments that recharge me. Spending time with my daughter, especially playing chess with her as soon as I get home, instantly energizes me after a long and busy day. Those quiet, thoughtful games help me reset. I also enjoy meditation and long mountain hikes—there’s something deeply grounding about reaching the top of a mountain, taking in the view, and finding clarity after the climb. These moments help me reconnect, refocus, and maintain balance.
