The Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research recently unveiled its latest group of Distinguished Investigators. Among the 48 honored was Anna Sorace, Ph.D., marking a major acknowledgment of her contributions to medical imaging.

“This is a huge honor to be nominated and selected for this award and speaks to the continuous support and collaborative infrastructure we have at UAB for translational imaging research,” Sorace said. “It was a wonderful experience getting to stand beside some amazing clinicians and scientists in our field from across the US.”
For Sorace, this recognition is more than a milestone. It highlights a career defined by innovative thinking, translational research, and an unwavering commitment to advancing cancer care.
As director of the Sorace Lab, she leads research focused on leveraging advanced imaging technologies to improve cancer detection, therapeutic monitoring, and drug delivery. Her work focuses on quantitative, non-invasive imaging strategies designed to guide and optimize treatment, with the ultimate goal of enhancing patient outcomes.

The 2025 Distinguished Investigator honor adds to a growing list of accolades. In 2022, she received the Dean's Excellence Award in Research at UAB for her achievements as a junior faculty member, including her leadership in establishing and directing the Small Animal Imaging Facility. Her research program has also been supported by major grants, including serving as principal investigator on a National Cancer Institute-funded project exploring imaging-guided approaches to breast cancer treatment.
The Distinguished Investigator status affirms that Sorace’s work is shaping the future of medical imaging. It underscores her leadership in the field and positions her and her team to drive new discoveries and breakthroughs in the years ahead.
