UAB Department of Surgery providers have been recognized by UAB Medicine for their excellence in patient care. This year, 42 providers have received the Provider Excellence Award – based on patient evaluations and feedback. To qualify for this award, a provider must receive evaluations from at least 30 patients and maintain a satisfaction rate of at least 95 percent.
In their feedback surveys, patients are asked to assess a provider’s overall performance in areas such as: active listening, the quality of medical care, the effectiveness of explanations about medical conditions, shared decision-making, and showing care and concern.

The UAB Department of Surgery has set a record for the number of providers receiving the Provider Excellence Award. Last year, 33 surgery providers were recognized for their outstanding patient satisfaction rates. In addition to this recognition from patients, UAB Medicine has been nominated as the best hospital in Alabama and the Southeast by U.S. News & World Report.
